John Hunter Hospital School provides an educational service to students unable to access the classroom for medical reasons. These one on one sessions cater for individual needs with a focus on literacy numeracy and wellbeing. Young people can be located within the pediatric wards, admitted as an outpatient, or even staying at Ronald McDonald house. The school sessions are often a highlight in their day as school is one of the few non-medical experiences they have in hospital. It is lovely to greet our young people when we arrive with our trolleys of activities. A key role of the ward teacher is to facilitate and provide support to ensure a successful transition back to their local census school.
